NelsonPIne LVL looking good in Christchurch
“This building is going to put NelsonPine LVL on the international stage again,” predicts Project Development Manager Jason Guiver. The presenter of TV’s Grand Designs NZ, Chris Moller, is the architect of the Christchurch’s new Mount Pleasant Community Centre, due to open in June; while the engineer is Alistair Cattanach, who worked with NPIL on the Waitomo Visitor Centre.
“Our LVL billet size helped dictate the geometry of the design, it was optimised to get the maximum from a billet,” says Jason. “They were able to cut two triangles per sheet that helped to create the distinctive structure and minimised waste, all the offcuts went to site to be used in the building.”
The LVL triangles are being left exposed on the interior walls and ceiling of the new centre.
